I was directed to put Duramycin in the water not for the treatment of the fowl pox, but as a preventative for secondary infection (respiratory). That was the advice of an avian professional, treating poultry for a living. He assured me that the pox typically runs its course without incident, but the birds might be succeptible to respiratory illness. The addition of electrolytes were to simply help keep them healthy during the extreme heat (given the fact that they were already stressed a bit from the pox). I think most chickens don't have any problems with dry pox, and both of these things were probably unneccessary. -just went ahead as a precaution. My birds are young and not laying yet.
