Hi, I have a hen who has a cut on her foot and I think it may be scaly leg mites or just a cut.
If it is a cut how do I keep it from becoming buble foot? It's really cold here, could it become a infection?
Other then the cut or missing scales she seems normal.

Do not mind the poop.

I agree with @Kris5902 . That is a minor injury with a missing scale.
Clean the foot well, dry it with a towel and/or blow dryer then apply blu kote to disinfect and hide the injury and she should be just fine.

I think bumble foot is usually on the bottom of the feet, and basically a nasty infected wound that is a bit like a giant pimple.

If you wash the foot, dry it off and spray it with blu kote it should be fine. Basically think about what would you do if you skinned your knee? Clean it and cover it... well chickens don’t seem to like bandaids, so the blu kote “covers” it. Also, the blue color is supposed to stop them from pecking it.

Any time we have any open wound on an animal here I spray it you can also spray it into a paper towel and dab it on delicate areas like a comb or near a face. It’s great stuff, I think everyone should keep it on hand!

I was manly worried about bumble foot, I've herd those can be rely bad. So when I saw the cut on her foot I freaked out that my little chicken was going to get bumble foot.

It’s good that you’re keeping such a good watch on her. Bumble foot usually makes them walk poorly because they don’t want to put any weight on the sore foot. Its good you worry, because it shows you care! She’s a lucky chicken to have you.
