What is this thing???! PLEASE HELP!

I was just cleaning out my chicken coop today and found this DISGUSTING thing in there:

WHAT IS THAT?!?! Please help guys!! My only guess is a shell-less egg that was smashed and then a fly egg was laid on it and the larvae is eating it? Is this a disease?

How does it smell? It could be a rotten shell less egg.

That's a shell-less egg. No fly larva. What you see is simply a defect of the egg making machines.
This usually isn't caused by disease. Just provide your hens with calcium supplements.

I agree with the 'granny' lady. It may be a one time occurrence or an indicator of a potential reproductive tract problem.

Are your layers young? An occasional shelless egg can be normal in the first months of laying "start up." Like @sourland you don't want to see this regularly.

Do they have access to free choice oyster shell or other calcium supplement?

Yep! I have a couple relatively new layers but they have been laying for a few months now. They do have free choice calcium though.

Okay! Just monitor the situation. These things do happen as the girls' systems get up-and-running. If you see it repeatedly, though, it is cause for concern. Good luck!!
