First and foremost is excellent ventilation - shoot for 1 square foot per bird in the building. Then fresh food and clean water. A good probiotic helps. Start with healthy vigorous birds.
I use http://www.gro2max.com/
Developed in Egypt, it is formulated specifically for chickens.
They have good ventilation. I have a screen door inside the barn where the breeze blows thru their outside door into the coop and out the screen door. We change water twice a day and replace with fresh since both hubby and I work. We also give them clean fresh feed once a day.
I will send hubby to tractor supply to see if they have any probiotics. I am thinking I will treat for coccidiosis just in case, I am assuming that it couldn't hurt.
