I planted this some 8 years ago. It was about 12" tall. Over the years it has grown! Never really took much notice of it apart from when it pricks me. But this year it had sprouted and is about to flower for the first time. I have no ldea what it is but it stands over 8'! Does anybody know what it is?

Yep, a yucca plant. I can't stand them, although a lot of people like them. Where we used to live (in an arid climate) they were all over, and seemed to attract snakes. We had snake nests in all of the ones in our yard.

Same here. I don't like anything that's unpleasant to walk into (the leaves are pointy, and the massive flower stalks are very woody and sharp if broken). They do well in arid environments but also in wetter ones. I had a massive one in my yard and rats would hide under it. Finally had to tear it out, no one in the household liked it.
