I was looking at that & thinking I know what that is... but I have no idea what that is.

I *think* it was due to the old wood burning ovens being uneven in temperature. . the funnel, or bird let's heat or steam escape from the bottom of the pie.
They are mostly just collectables now. I learned about them from @room onthebroom
