Yep

Here we’d call anything that doesn’t pull spring water from an aquifer a cistern rather than a well...

... so it’s a “cistern pump” around here... but maybe called a “chain pump” elsewhere

This was the old style chain and “buckets”...

I forgot now ... but I’ve seen these sell at auction... I think folks hang a section with a few buckets on the porch and put flowers in them or something like that...

The minnow thing was new to me... I never heard anyone say they put fish in the cistern ...

Grandma had a cistern in the basement that the gutters drained into... most did around here...it was opened up to the rest of the basement when they got electricity and a well
The pump was a regular looking hand pump
