I thought it was driven off a tractor by a belt and blew it up to the top of the silo

That is it. But silos are filled with a blower now that is run off power take off. The corn or hay is chopped in the field.

The old silo fillers did the chopping at the silo as it was blown in. We harvested shocks in the field and hauled them to the silo filler.

It use to take several 6-8 people to fill a silo now it can be done with one or two.
