Hi folks, thankyou all for responding and appreciate the welcome back. I love Penelope so and can't afford the surgery, what should I do? I can't cull her. Is it inhumane to let her live out the days or is she in terrible pain.? She still comes running when she sees me and that was this morning. I don't know what to do

I was thinking antibiotics, not surgery. If she were mine I would start her on Baytril.

My Maggie delivered two lash eggs and the vet and everyone else believed she would not live long. That was a year ago last week. She is now laying normally.
I believe in general hens don't recover from salpingitis but my Maggie proves it is possible.
There is no reason to believe Penelope is in pain so you don't need to euthanize her as long as she has a good quality of life.
It is definitely worth trying a hefty dose of a broad spectrum antibiotic if you can get your hands on some. I think someone provided the link to the All Bird products website for Baytril.

Thank you so very much. She is indeed living a full life, in fact they all are. We have two cars and a two car garage that I just had to make a coop out of, so now come snow time, we will be clearing our cars off of snow and ice and the chickens stare out the windows watching us and I imagine LAUGHING.
