What is This????

Yesterday the chicks started arriving at our local feed store. I have just hatched 17 mixed chicks and have 10 more in the incubator. Last night DH and I went to the feed store. Before walking in DH said no more chicks dont even look. Well as we were walking aound we did stop to look. I was showing him that 2 that hatched from shipped eggs looked like the EE's. As we were leaving he says those chipmunk looking chicks sure are cute. Wouldnt mind a few of those. I started laughing and said you were afraid of ME looking at them? Then said no I want some bantam buff cochins. We have right now 20 layers 2 roosters 3 8 week old bantam cochins 2 of which are roos 17 babies in the brooder 10 chicken eggs in the incubator 6 duck eggs and am getting 2 swaps from March egg swap.

So if i get 2o silkie eggs and say 10 hatch. say 3 of them were roosters so those wont count??? so then ill only have 7 but say 3 of them die illl only have 4 but they are pets so i have 0 and i have to get more? Sounds good to me!!!!! but i can only keep 3 so if they are pets then i just say i have 0 and get egg layers? ok this can work this can work

Right now I have 12 chickens in the coop. One is a roo, so he doesn't count. I can't ever remember the names of my 3 Red Stars--they all look exactly alike--so they don't really count. They're more like just one chicken. The three Silkies don't count because they're so tiny and they were a rescue anyway. Plus two are broody so they like double don't count. The two 5 month olds in the garage don't count because they are currently living in the garage. The 5 eggs under the broody and the 6 in the incubator most certainly don't count, so I should probably get to TSC. I have room for 14 chickens in my coop and I only have 5!

Yup. You all sound about right...with the DH and everything. This is my second year and im already adding another coop and run. Thank goodness the DH just looks exhasperated and then helps me set up the Basement Brothel, yet again. For not wanting chickens at all he has so far: built me a custom cedar coop (he's a carpenter) and run, MOVED IT because the neighbors complained, built me a huge cage for raising chicks, MOVED IT, and continues to do maintenance any time I change my mind about the layout of the coop. What a good man!YourLinkGoesHere

I took up raising chickens last year for eggs and home grown meat.

Got 14 Blue Wyandottes pretty close to laying age.
5 are boys in which 4 are going to freezer camp(These don't count)
. Only 1 is being kept for breeding. He counts
Of the 9 hens 2 are being held for a friend until she gets her coop predator proof so they don't count. So only 7 count.
Total Blue Wyandottes = 8

Got 5 Silkies.
Only 1 rooster counts as Shrek hardly grows and is way to small to count
The 3 girls only count as 1 cus they are small
Total Silkies = 2

Got 8 mixed chicks (currently 4 weeks)
I think atleast 4 are boys and possible Piper is male too. All boys in this group do not count. (Boys will be going to freezer camp as soon as they are big enough)
Total mixed chicks = 3ish (Piper cannot count until it reveals itself as a girl)

Ordered Breeder Quality Wyandotte chicks of varying colors. (None count as the Breeder never contacted me on whether the order was accepted or not)

Won an Auction for 6+ Ameracauna eggs (these do not count as they have not hatched.)

Total Chickens today = 13

. I just didn't 'get' math in high school especially algebra, but after joining the forum I am smart as a whip. Chicken math is something I understand instinctively, and the amazing examples found here are just sharpening my skills. Thank you all. I am waiting for threads on Chicken English, chicken history, art, PE, science etc. so I will be even more rounded than my figure is now.
