What is this??

I found this next to a broken egg shell while collecting eggs yesterday. I only have hens and they've never been exposed to a Roo. Any clues as to what this is??

Not sure exactly what it is, but it isn't a chick/embryo if that is what you were thinking. Are your hens new layers? Sometimes it takes a while for them to get their egg production going properly. Or it might be a lash egg??? Not sure, but you can search lash egg or weird egg on the forum to find threads with pics from others with egg abnormalities. Might be a section of a tape worm, but I doubt it, and can't tell from that pic. If it is a 1 time thing, it usually isn't anything to worry about, chickens aren't machines and sometimes things just don't quite come out the way they should. If it keeps happening, then there might be something wrong.

That's a 'lash egg', cut it in half lengthwise and you should see layers of material.
Google 'lash egg' for pics to compare.
