What is this?

So sometimes ill pick up one of my chickens and they'll like lay there head down all the way. and close there eyes I've heard many things about this. is it that shes hot ( I give them electrolytes on hot days in their water) or are they just relaxing? I don't know. sorry if I come off as a noob.or is she just tired? she SOMETIMES clucks when she does that as well.

I also thought I wasn't holding her right. but I have always held them right. I have friends that have chickens and they showed me.

How old are they? Is it just one that does it? Do they do it while you're standing up holding them with your hands or are you sitting with it on your lap? I'm having a hard time picturing what your describing.

the one that does it is only 11 months old yeah maybe another one does it. only seem to do it when there hot. but she like idek like bends her neck down its weird she closes her eyes and speaks sometimes or just barely has em open im holding them while standing up I hold them with my hand underneath them you know securely.

Putting their head down and closing their eyes could just be a sign of submission....or wanting to get back down on the ground.

Are they active and healthy otherwise?

Yeah. someone told me it was her just nervousness. she saw her so im going with that. yeah all 5 of them are very happy healthy chickens. spoiled rotten to lol

I know many will disagree but I truly believe my chickens are just as capable of loving me as my dog. I have chickens I can't hold but I also have chickens who love nothing more than to jump up for a nap and snuggle with me. I think your chicken loves you and feels safe and secure. The naked neck in my avatar (Blanca) will even leave her chicks on the ground for a snuggle in my lap.

I have a four-week old Cream Legbar that is so laid back she seems to have a mission to nap on my lap. When she falls asleep, she looks dead with her skinny little neck hanging down and eyes shut.

It sounds like your hen is like my Legbar, very relaxed and enjoys a snuggle so much she zones out.

I won't disagree - both are equally as capable of "loving you".....however, that is where the discussion would lead to issues of anthropomorphising.
