what is too cold

We were -4 F last night which is like -20 C to me. We also had wind gusts earlier in the day, and the wind chill was awful. Our coop is insulated, kept out of direct wind, plus we have a heat lamp in there on a timer. I only have 4 birds, but we have never had frost bite or any other problems. The coop is insulated so well, that the water doesn't usually freeze. (it did last night!)

It is not unusual to get temps of -35 C which is -31 F, plus a wind chill...longjohns are a fashion accessory around these parts!

Omeletta, you are making me think I'm lucky at 20 with windchills to about 10. The chickens don't have any heat in the coop, but there are no drafts and they are well insulated. So far, so good, but I am nervous

I know we are suppose to live in the moment, but I am looking forward to warmer weather. . .

Me too, Kayri! I long for spring!
