Kane is just teething at 4mos? Is he putting in his adult teeth now? Amstaffs start put in adult teeth at about 4 mos and do the puppy ear dance then, too, and it will settle down after that. I think Shepherds take a bit longer.

Diamond had a recall in 2006 for deadly Aflatoxin contamination. It is a fungus that grows on improperly stored corn and wheat. It caused liver trouble, liver failure and even death as a result of the dog developing clotting problems and bleeding into its gastrointestinal tracts. Two thirds of the dogs showing symptoms died.

In 2007 Natural Balance (made by the same manufacturer) was recalled for melamine contamination. Canned Diamond and Chicken Soup food was also recalled (also made by Diamond)

They also sell food that has expired by most manufacturers' standards; their sell-by dates are typically 18 months in advance. Kirkland is also made by the same manufacturer in some of the same factories.

4Health and TOTW are made by Diamond. The 4Health brand was introduced to try and increase sales due to the poor reputation of Diamond. Some formulas are already being replaced by 4Health versions in TSC stores. Neither 4Health nor TOTW sacks make any mention of being made by Diamond; really not the most ethical of manufacturers.

While true about the past of the Diamond company they are making improvements.
Have you tried a higher CALORIE dog kibble? TOTW High Prairie (bison) has 370/cup. Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete has 470/cup. Inovva Evo large/small bites has 537/cup. Natures Logic has 551 calories. Timberwolf Organic wild and natural formula has 564. I have not found anyone with a higher calorie count. Beneful has only 360per cup. Have you tried Blue Buffalo large breed puppy? That is 505 calories per cup.
He doesn't look underweight to me. Only because I do keep my dogs "thin" and in great physical shape. I worry about their hips. I shouldn't have to but I do. 5lbs on a dog is a big difference where for us to gain or lose 5 lbs is not an issue.

I fed Diamond at one time but have shied away since the aflatoxin and melamine problems. Not so much because they occurred but because of Diamond's slowness at addressing the situation. Kinda like the ongoing Toyota deal.
