What is with people?

Do people have no sense of responsibility anymore? Does no one adhere to promises made?

My husband has a booth at the LA County Fair this year distributing a product. He offered the chance to other distributors to come and work to increase their client base and sign up other distributors. He had plenty of people sign up, at least enough for two people, besides himself, every day (it runs wed-sun for the whole month of Sep).

So far he has had two people just choose to not show up, two others call and say they weren't showing up, and two more show up hours after they were supposed to. I don't understand that? These people even paid money for the chance to work such a big event (an average of 1.3 million come to this fair every year). Yesterday he had a guy leave to booth to go get food and he didn't come back for six hours!!!

The thing that really irks me is that my husband is there working every day, the whole day, now sometimes without a break because people aren't showing up. He is not allowed to eat at his booth and if the booth is left unattended, he can be fined $200 per time. So basically, if people don't show up, my husband is unable to get even so much as a bathroom break. I just don't get it!

Dumb rules like that are part of the problem. I understand your gripe about people, I tend to have similar problems myself, to the point I do stuff by myself and don't even ask for help.​

It sounds like he needs to mention these people to his supervisor, if any, and also needs to tell them that he won't be offering them this opportunity again next year.
