guilty as charged! Dh-DD and I are on a sharing plan of minutes-1400 minutes and unlimited texting-we have alot of communication through texts -I would have left DD many times after school with canceled events if we didnt have the phones-I get texts at home but cant get calls so thats good-yes we have a house phone but it wont go that far without losing range:-( Im mostly outside until dark
I don't text, I turned that feature off on my phone. If someone wants to communicate with me, they can call me and speak. I find that cell phone use in general suffers from an extreme lack of etiquette. I was in a movie this weekend and the girl in front of me texted throughout the movie. It was annoying because her phone display was bright and it just, for some odd reason, irked me. God forbid we should be out of touch for 2 hours.
After so many years of carrying around my cell phone I said goodbye and flipped it into a desk drawer
I now carry around quarters in case there's an emergency just like in the old days. Course I don't drive after dark in case I get stuck on a dark country road!
you are lucky to still have pay phones in states they started to pull them out about three yrs ago and now there is none around

Incorrect statement.....I am police officer and when I am driving Emergency traffic I don't even talk on the phone let alone text....most that I know do not!
Maybe not where you are but I have gotten hundreds of texts from other firemen over the years about there ETA, manpower, you name it. An I have seen more cops than I care to count texting or talking on the phone running code. Thats multiple departments an state agencys across about 8 states. The cell phone has replaced the radio for communication in a large part of the country. My local county actually uses text message based dispatching now with plans to make it the soul means of dispatching in the future.

Whats the quarters for? I ain't seen a pay phone in years...
I text because it is much more polite than hanging up after 30 seconds on the phone. I HATE the phone. I can send a text, say what I have to say, and move on. If I want to have a conversation I will call someone. Texting is for, "be ready", "Be here at 5", "how much do I pay the gas co again?"
