What is this word (obviously means chicken of some kind)? Where did it come from? How do you pronouce it? Ch as in church or ch as a "k"? When/why is it used?

From Urban Dictionary:

1. chook
Aussie slang for "chicken." Also, "chookie."

2. chook
One who has the characteristics of both a Chode and a Mook. These people are often called "Tools" but such a title is hardly harsh enough to describe the caliber of person you are often dealing with. An especially Lame, or undesirable person who is so self-centered and arrogant, they can't seem to tell their A** Hole from the Grand Canyon.

That guy is such a Tool he's surpassed all others. He's officially become a chook.

3. chook
An Aussie slang word for chicken that's commonly used as a 'nice insult,' especially when somebody has done or said something really obviously retarded that's only worth laughing about. Similar to that of a 'dag.'

Morgan: I got hit by a bus yesterday
Ted: oh yeah, what happened?
Morgan: I was standing in the middle of a road
Ted: ha, ya bloody chook

So I think Buff is correct (had to happen sooner or later) doesn't necessarily mean female....sorry yappy (not)

I have never heard chook used as in a tool.(silly, idiot dag etc) Thats "you turkey" normally. Chooks as in your chickens in the backyard are usually girls. Roosters are still roosters. Slang can vary from the different states here too.
