    Hello eveeyone,
I have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Golden Sexlinks & 3 polish golden laced pullets/hens.
Today we had 3 eggs! Now we know that the 2 Rhode Islands are laying but not sure what is wrong with one of the eggs and who laid it?!?
It is speckled and looks like it has scratches on it.

That's probably just excessive bloom....or incomplete pigment coating...happens sometimes, especially with new layers.
Some birds will always have excessive bloom.
    Does it wash off?

Can have lots of 'irregularity' in backyard chicken eggs that you won't see in store eggs.
    Just normal inconsistency.

I have an LF Buff Cochin that lays speckled eggs. She is a new layer and all have been like that so far. I think they are predecorated and beautiful! I won't disturb me one bit if they stay like that forever. [IMG]

Congrats on your new layers! It shouldn't be anything to worry about.

My Golden Comet's first egg was speckled like that. I kept it for the longest time because I thought it was beautiful! Congrats on your new layers :)

Nothing is wrong with it. This is normal variation of an egg. Part of the joy of having your own backyard flock is you get to experience the ranges of eggs hens lay, not just the Nazi white uniform eggs available in the stores. Lots of us covet hens that lay "different" eggs.....

    Thank you.

I forget who laid the first one, kind of a pinkish with white spots. The second one was a hatchery Welsummer. The third was where I got inspired to call my mixes Camo Eggers. My boys are big into camo clothing, etc, and loved those eggs.
