Hi everyone 😅, this morning i checked on my chickens and noticed something was wrong, yesterday i found one dead and 9/10 out of 20 are all loking like their about to die. Theyre basically on the brink. A few weeks ago i found they had worms. I gave them medicine for 5 days as someone on here recommended and i gave them ivermectin in theit water as an addition. . Can someone please tell me what could be the cause of most of my hens dying?!😭. I have more photos if needed

Update: 3 of them died today. The rest are still struggling, i gave them a bit of water so theyre not too dehydrated and ill give them some more tomorrow morning if they survive the night.

What wormer did you give for 5 days? Why did you give ivermectin in their water as well? You can poison chickens if you get the dosage wrong especially if you are doubling up on medications
I gave them this. I read that ivermectin was good to give them as well but i never questioned if it was bad to give both at the same time.

What type of ivermectin did you use and the dosage?
Gave them about 6 tablets in total in 5 gallon water. 2 when the water was low and 4 when it was full. Its probably kidney failure isn’t it?

That’s most likely what happened. With dissolving tablets in water there is no way to ensure what dosage they are receiving. Anything over 5 mg/kg will kill them and you put 12mgx6 tabs which is 72mg of ivermectin in their water. One chicken could have received an overdose and another could have received minuscule amounts.

Oh okay i see. Well now I know for next time. Thank you

I'm so sorry this happened. I recently wormed my flock. I used Valbazen which is a liquid goat wormer. We gave each one 1/2 ml right in the beak, and 10 days later repeated the dose. We did it at night when they had gone to roost so there was no problem catching them. My DH held them while I dosed them, and we put a band on each hen's leg as we did so we would know who was treated. The second time we treated them, we took the bands off.

You gave them these meds a few weeks ago and you are just finding them dead today?

Hello, @B_o. I am so sorry to hear about your chickens. I will be praying that they feel better.
I am new to chicken keeping, so I cannot really offer advice. My family recently de-wormed our chickens for the first time. They went into shock afterwards and couldn't stay awake. We ended up needing to tube a molasses solution into them. My sister created a thread for help. The folks there helped save the lives of our chickens. They are doing so well now. I thought maybe you would like to look through and see if anything might help:

I recognize your situation is not exactly the same as ours, but I figured I would share and maybe it could help. I truly hope your chickens recover well.
