What is wrong with my rooster comb?

It has been like this for awhile now but tonight I noticed that it seemed to have spread a little and got darker.

Darkening of the back of the comb can be normal in roosters with very large combs. With watching it at different times, it should be mostly red at times. I can't explain it in scientific terms, but it seems pretty common.
