What is your chickens' favorite treat?

As I read the comments on this post it appears that the birds really like meat. This make me nervous because my single fear in life is that one day I'll fall down in the coop, bump my head, get knocked out and then get miserably pecked in the eyes and ears by my feathered friends.

I think I have a condition that requires treatment.

It isn't easy being me.

I'd just be grateful your user name isn't pinky toes, or they'd go for you for sure! NEVER wear red nail polish on your toes in the chicken coop, as our daughter learned.

red nail polish...with my birds, don't go out there wearing shorts and have a freckle on your leg! lol or toe nails, peck, peck, peck, ouch ouch ouch!

My 6 year old daughter is a little skittish in the coop when she wears open-toed shoes or sandals (she usually wears muck boots). The chickens must think her toes are corn kernels!

My monniker, "Hinky Toes", comes from the name of one of our white Wyandotte roosters who has a genetic defect that affects his feet. They're crooked, or as our 11 year old son says - "He has hinky toes". He is our "buddy rooster" and a good bird, so we keep him around.

We raise our birds for eggs to be eaten, so there is no risk that Hinky Toes bad feet genes will be passed on.

Yes, just like the little old cat ladies in little apartments in NYC. We'll all be found someday as pecked over skeletons in the coop, with the treat dish in our bony hand...

I cooked scratch in the rice cooker with lotsa water and served a big pan of hot scratch this morning and the hens made happy noises that I've not heard before. Even the skittish feed store Buffs came over and ate out of my hand.

It cooks up nice - the grains of corn and wheat and milo get very plump and look rather succulent.

This is the favorite so far, especially when it's less than 20F outside!
