I have enjoyed my chickens this year. Started out with 15 and fed 7 to the raccoons. Now when I get home from work I let them out of fort Nox to go catch bugs and scratch around. By early evening my two neighbors and I really enjoy sitting in lawn chairs and feeding the 8 chickens a few slices of bread. They seem to really love Sara Lee multi grain. My cat is old and sick and doesnt eat all of his food so they will eat whats left over as well. Plus old rice, they like to pick at corn on the cob. My chickens get grower pellets or layer pellets, and any other food item that I might other wise put in the composte pile. Regular garbage disposals!

The Serama chicks LOVE fresh spinach. It's so funny, I can drop a bunch of little pieces on the bottom of the brooder, but they HAVE to STEAL it out of another chicks beak! They devour a whole spinach leaf in under a minute!

The favorite for the outside Serama is GRAPES, rolled and whole oats, BLACK crickets, Itty bitty corn meal and clover grass.

It's so fun treating them, huh

My granddaughter whips up concoctions for them: left over rice and yogurt with chopped herbs of all sorts...its practically gourmet. They also love watermelon, leaving hardly enough for the compost pile. And when I throw in grasshoppers the chase is on. Love to watch the ladies act like a bunch of 4 yr. old boys.

Honestly? Leftover pizza! Don't tell DH, that's one...err...USED to be one of his favorites (cold pizza).

Last week I gave our "girls" some leftover multi-flavored pasta, a sure hit...and they ate it all except the green spinach ones, so I picked them up and set them aside...later they relented and ate them too. Goofballs!
