What is your Chicken's Favourite Food? (List 3 only)

Do you give it to them raw or cooked - or does it matter?

Hello Yakibert,

My chickens love sweet corn in all shapes and forms. I usually try and get them fresh corn on the cob and even go into the trouble of cutting the corn kernels off the cob. I haven't boiled them corn yet, except when I have to resort to frozen corn kernels that need to be thawed out by pouring hot water on them.

They also love eating corn straight from the cob. It actually gives them something to fiddle with.

Cheers,
Gold Coaster

Both, while I was husking corn for dinner I gave them the ends, they tore it up pretty quck. We had 1 leftover from dinner and that was pure mayhem.

I took a tomatoe out of my greenhouse that was a little overripe. That just bumped squash out of the top 3.

I'm starting a new flock of Buff Orpingtons. I have 6 birds, that will be layers for the family. I'm pleased with the breed and they are growing at a steady rate. At present it is spring in my area and the birds are forageing daily in the backyard. I haven't been giving them treats, but I have been showing them where to find certain types of food in the backyard.

They're favorites seem to be:

1. Dandelions

2. Rooting for grubbies in the garden

3. Apple Cores (Okay...so the kids have been giving them treats)

Mine have recently replaced our bottom of three with dandelions as well!! Talk about pure mayhem when my kids drop them in the run!! Not to mention the smile on my neighbours face when she sees the kids picking the heads off of her yard as well! LOL!!

Very Cool.

My girls are 11 weeks old. I haven't given them too many treats so far, but they have shown interest in raw oats and flax seeds.

Absolutely zero interest in lettuce. I think maybe they've never been hungry...spoiled birds. This is a great thread!

My girls have recently discovered the joys of spring earthworms. Very funny! One will find a worm and look confused, then make a run for it, with the other 5 girls hot on her heels. Food and exercise all at once! As far as treats we give them, their top 3 are:

1. MEALWORMS!
2. cottage cheese
3. hard boiled eggs

Fun thread, by the way!
