Summer routine:
About 5:30 I go to the coop with a flashlight and put the feeders out. (We keep them locked up at night to deter rats.) That way any early risers can get some breakfast.
At 6:00 I open the run door so they can all free range. I throw scratch in the yard so all of them get out of the run and I can count baby chicks. Right now we have 5 mommas with 2 chicks each, plus 12 guinea keets. At this time I also check to make sure none are limping or otherwise look injured or sick.
About 7am I go back out to make sure no one stayed up on the roosts, a sure sign of sickness. I clean out the waterers if needed and check the broody mommas in their nests.
At 3pm I throw snacks off the back porch, bird seed, bread, or anything they like.
Usually they are all back in the coop and on the roosts by 8:30pm.
