What is your favorite breed of all time and why?

Cubalaya are heat and cold tolerant, and have pea combs. In the true bred lines the temperament is curious and friendly without much handling. With handling they are almost excessively friendly and underfoot. This is without question my favorite breed and I've had them for 20+ years. They are medium egg layers and typically excellent broodies. The most common color is wheaten as the single hens pictured are.View attachment 1644163 View attachment 1644165 View attachment 1644167

Hi All-

Resurrecting this post as it is time to add to the small flock again!

So to update you all I winded up going with Meyer Hatchery since they were the closest to me and I figured that the journey from hatchery to home would be the quickest compared to the others. I winded up placing an order in 5-2019 for four female baby chicks. I selected a BO, a Partridge Rock, a Cuckoo Marans and a GLW. All four arrived on time and without fanfare which was great. Communication with Meyer and my local USPS was good. Upon opening the box I noticed the BO was not fairing well which was sad. I quickly set them up in the brooder with my new Brinsea and gave them water (with the electrolytes) and showed them how to drink. On day two I lost the BO (which was so so sad but not entirely surprising) I called Meyer and they fully refunded me. The other three were good to go and grew into beautiful hens.

This past August I lost my GLW from a tumor (which she developed in year one from genetics I guess) She lived a good life, but the end of her life was very sad. I am ready to add to the flock again as I have 4 ladies that are in the coop, and would like to increase our numbers. This go around my DH and I have agreed to 6 chicks, this allows us to deal with any roos or such. With a MOQ of 6 this opens up my options with breeders and hatcheries.

My constraints have not changed, must be cold hearty, friendly, docile and somewhat quiet. I tend to like the heavy breeds and am recently intrigued by Buff Chanteclers, Dominiques and would like to try with the Orpington breed again, but I have lost 3 buffs in the past due to health issues- so do I try for a different color in the breed? I must say I continue to be very happy with the Plymouth Rock and Easter Egger breeds- wanted to try a true Ameraucana perhaps. I would love to do another GLW, but leery due to her poor health. (any one else having as many genetic issues as I am lol) The Speckled Sussex is definately up there on my wish list as well and think the Russian Orloff or Bielfelders could be a good addition. I really like my Cuckoo Marans as well- she lays almost EVERY day!

Any thoughts or comments are very welcome

Thanks all in advance for your help and wisdom!
