What is your favorite breed of Pigeon (or dove) and WHY?

My favorite breed is the ring-neck dove. I have a pair of tangerines, they are the friendliest birds I have ever owned ! Even friendlier than my cochins ever were ! I like them a lot more than my pigeons, as they fly to me, instead of away ! LOL I need to get pictures.

I've got West of England Tumblers...started out with one pair...now there's 8 beauties sharing flight space with my peafowl.

if I have to choose, then my pick will pouter/ croppers, love to see them fly and struts on top of their lofts.....

So far I've only had homers, birmingham rollers, cappuchines, and ringneck doves. I love my doves (evidenced by my title

) but I really like the rollers too. So far I have not free flown my pigeons since I currently only have 9, I'll wait until I have enough to risk losing some to predators. The doves only 'free fly' when they sneak out of their cage, but I always get them back. The last 'free flying' dove I had got so excited when I went to feed that she flew at me when I opened the door. I think she was as surprised as I was and wasn't hard at all to catch

I usually leave their cage doors open when I'm feeding (though I'm right in front of it) and they don't offer to come out.


Other than the ones I listed, I really like the Archangels; I just love their colors. I've been thinking about getting Kings or some other 'meat' type but haven't decided on it for sure yet. There are several breeds that I'm not familiar with...there are tons of different types!

ETA: I forgot about parlor rollers!! Those are the coolest birds. They are flightless, but they do amazing acrobatics on the ground! You should check out youtube videos for parlor rollers, they are neat little birds
