Well since I'm an oranmental person, my favorite pigeon is the crowned victorias, or imperial pigeons.. For doves, basically any fruit doves.

I did have a modena that I loved, and now have a pair of ringneck and diamond doves.

i have to say i love my Irranian High Flyers, they come in all diffrent collors, so you never know what will pop up when you look in the nest! they are a clean legged breed but have a butifull little crest on their heads.

I love the iranian highflier! Hatching out chicks? I wondered about that. I was afraid the chicks would get scalped by the pigeons after they realized they werent pigeons.

I love my racing homers. They are friendly and breed well, and they look soooooo beautiful when they fly around together. For the past 3 years I have free flown mine year round, only losing one or two a year, but this spring I lost 3 in quick succession (and other pigeon people around me lost many more than that)... there were just so many hawks out this spring. Anyway, I locked mine in for about 4 weeks and just let them out again yesterday. Like one of the previous posters said, pigeons are meant to fly and love to fly... unfortunately this does come at a pretty steep price sometimes.

My favorites are Birmingham rollers because of their aerial acrobatics. I also maintain a flock of crossbreds- mostly blacks with white flights. They are more hawk elusive than the rollers and are very striking in flight.
