What is your favorite chicken breed???

My Black Sex Links typically lay 6, sometimes 7 eggs per week per hen.
Hmmmmm....Wow!! Black Sex Links have good egg laying production!!!! In your other post (on page 1 of this thread) you said you had dozens of other breeds as well as hybrids? What other breeds did you have?? Did you have any Barred Rocks by any chance? I just got 8 Barred Rock pullets today and i'm trying to get more information about them from people who owned them. Thanks!!!

You're welcome. I've had Barred Rocks at times in the past, but don't currently have any. They are a good, hardy, durable breed that are normally docile (I've had a few exceptions over the years), and good layers of large, brown eggs (3-4 eggs per hen per week). I totaled up the number of breeds I've had in reply to a post the other day and I turns out that I've had 30 different breeds (assuming I didn't miss one somewhere in the count). This does not include the different color varieties I've had within each breed (example: Barred Plymouth Rock, Buff Plymouth Rock, White Plymouth Rock, Partridge Plymouth Rock). I've also had such hybrids as Red Sex Links, Easter Eggers, and Austra Whites. My personal favorite standard breed are Australorps and I still have them in my flock. They are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Other breeds that I really love are Buff Orpingtons (which I still have in my flock) and Speckled Sussex (don't currently have any but have seriously considered getting some more), and most dual purpose breeds I like very well. Other hybrids besides Black Sex Links that I really love are Red Sex Links and Austra Whites. I should mention that Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite chickens. I keep some in my flock because she loves their colored eggs.

Yeah...Haha!!! I know about the title thing, but what I meant is that you really don't need the title to show you know tons about chickens...because you already do!!!!

Thanks!! Oh, and I had a question about the Rocks you had....were they REALLY noisy???

You're making me blush. Flock Master is just a title based on a number of posts. I'm sure there are some new eggs here that know more about chickens than I do.)

Fairly noisy as most of the hens I've had have been. If you're looking for a quiet breed, the quietest breeds I have had have probably been Silkies, Brahmas, Australorps, and Orpingtons. These have all been relatively quiet for chickens.
