what is your favorite dual purpose bird

i got a light brahma and shes is almost 9 pounds at only a year old and she lays everyday now.

Currently have Faverolles and Buff Orps. Not much meat for us to eat.

We will be adding Brahmas, Jersey Giants and some Cornish (pure breeds not the crosses.) Most of our choices for next year will be discussed in the coming month. This way we can order and see which breeds we will continue with.

not sure. I think breeder, but I got them through Purely Poultry. They are a broker and I never did find out what the source was (breeder or hatchery) for our birds. Love my girls they all lay great. Have 15 hens and get 9 to 15 eggs a day.

Barred Rocks, White Rocks, and Dominiques. Dominiques don't lay as much and are a bit smaller - but they make up for it by being extremely active foragers which makes them cheaper to feed if you have a place for them to forage.

I'm liking the idea of Lt Sussex. Taste wise it would be great. Plus they are winter layers. Go broody in January or so. They lay better than Speckled Sussex and are bigger.
