What is your feeding Schedule

First thing in the morning (they won't lay until I feed them--boy do they have me trained) and then in the late afternoon after I've had them out free-ranging for a couple of hours. They come running cause they know I've got dinner. Also might give them a treat if there is no time to free-range, they like melon rinds, corn cobs and yogurt. When they're young I always have grower crumbles available, but when they start laying I like to keep tabs on who's doing what and who's eating and who's not, etc. I've 5 in the standard pen and it's 1/2c each am and pm per bird.

MAKE SUE THE FEEDERS ARE ALWAYS FULL... ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE STILL GROWING, BUT ITS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE IT ALWAYS FULL AND CHANGE WATER AT LEAST ONCE A DAY... KEEP IT CLEAN AND IN A BROODER WITH THE WARMTH OF THE LIGHT AND THE RIGHT CLIMATE ETC ITS PERFECT FOR BACTERIA TO GROW SO CHANGE THAT AT LEAST ONCE A DAY ITS A GOOD IDEA A FEW TIMES TOO. BEST OF LUCK .

Thanks guys..............I've leaned alot about feeding and Times. I see that as long as they are given feed and water daily they will be just fine, evan if you miss a feeding time.

I know I've not fed my girls for eighteen hours, One whole day and the next morning trying to get them to go back inside the coop, but they were just fine as long as they had water.

I have a pic and instructions on how to make pvc feeder posted under home made feeder in coop design section. I have no waste with these feeders. They can't bill it out. Hope this helps

My girls have access to their feeder all day, and two sources of water. The feeder always has feed in it. They get treats in the afternoon when I get home from work.

Then, when it's lights out and they go into the coop for the night, they have water in the coop.

I let them out early morning before I go to work, so they trot down the ramp, scratch around a bit, and then go to the feeder. No one acts like she is starving, and they're pretty plump-looking, so it's obviously working well.

I keep the feeder out in the run during the day. I don't fill it to the top. Just a few horse scoops worth. When it rains, it goes under the coop. I top it off at night when I bring the feeder into the shed. Usually, my son turns the girls out in the morning, so I keep the feeder ready for him. I don't want feed spilled all over the shed. I also keep a dish in the run with a few handfuls of feed in it. That's enough to tide them over until they get turned out.

So how much more food do they eat if you feed all day long over feeding twice a day?

It was my understanding that a grown bird will eat about a haft a cup of food in twenty four hours plus treats?

And this is my next question about feed?

I had a frash egg for the first time and it tasted stronge not like a store bought egg.

My question is: Can the taste of the egg be changed or made stronger by the food their fed or the treats their given?
