I make sure the feeders are kept full or nearly full.
When I go to let the chooks out in the morning, I toss their morning treat on the ground and open the door. They gobble the treat up and then head for our kitchen window to check for japanese beetles that have stopped/died there overnight.
While they're busy feeding their faces, I go in the coop and note the level of food and water while I collect eggs.
If something needs filling immediately I do it. Otherwise I top the feeders off and clean and refill their waterers in the evening.
