What is your flock's favorite food?

Mine like them too but I have to toss them to them. If I just lay them out they won't touch them.

I have a bowl full, I should play catch tomorrow with the chickens. lol

If I gather quail eggs before feeding the chickens I have to put them in my pockets. Otherwise, they are fair game for anyone that sees them. Really aggravating when the quail are in-season.

I usuallyhave a basket with me and thats what the eggs go in. The chickens will look in the basket but won't touch any of the eggs in it but if I toss them one they go after it like it's winner take all. Even if it's one of their eggs. I don't think they even look to see what it is. They see it fall, assume it's food and go after it to get to it before the others do. Like kids at a parade dodging for the candy. Oh, better yet, like customers in a department store on Black Friday. I actually had somebody take some jeans out of my buggy when I turned my back.

I don't use a basket, though I should with as many as I've dropped out of my pockets

If I toss an egg on the ground they all come running and I have a few girls that will peck at eggs that I sit down (like on the rabbit cage after I've collected one), but the quail eggs are fair game regardless of where they are. If the chickens could see through my pockets I'm sure I'd be attacked

I often wonder if they'd do the same thing if I had bobwhites instead of coturnix? The spots on the eggs surely tip them off that they are 'treat' eggs, but the white bobwhite eggs would look too much like their own eggs. Something to think about I guess.

ETA: I do think they just assume that it's food because you throw it and grab it before looking. I've had a few go after a cigarette butt but they've stopped short when they feel the heat

mine will KILL for unslated peanuts in the shell. They look like a football team when i toss a few in.

Tomatoes, brussel sprouts, cheese, and 'crack'. all favorites. The 'Happy Hen treats' (mealworms) you better RUN and RUN fast if you open them in an area within 20 feet of them.
