What is your hatch percentage on shipped eggs?

0 to 50% Usually lousy.

OTOH, I threw a bunch of fresh eggs in the incubator and got 100% hatch. Go figure.

I did a hatch in July (my FIRST hatch) and I was happy with my end result.

Shipped I got: 25 eggs, 19 made it to lockdown, 14 hatched.

Neighbours I got: 15 eggs, 11 made it to lockdown, 6 hatched.

*This was a combined hatch of chickens, turkeys and ducks. 100% of the duck eggs hatched which were all shipped.

I am setting more tomorrow, 12 shipped, 22 of the neighbours and maybe 7 of my own - I want to try the dry incubation method as this time they will all be chicken eggs.

Definitely don't count your chickens before they hatch...my first shipped eggs were due to hatch yesterday, three came out pretty quickly, three needed help, another needed help and i was watching it, but i got busy setting up the incubation area with my 6-yo grandgirl, when we went back to check it was blowing bubbles, it didn't make it. So out of 20 eggs from two states (AR and TX), i got 7 developed, 6 alive, less than a third.

I just got 6 BLRW eggs, they came in good shape, nicely packed, but four have moving air cells....;~( California is a long way away.

I bought the incubator because i lost all my broodies and roosters to a fox, i grabbed the last seven fertile eggs...they sat for i think 11 days while i tried to find a broody, then ordered the incubator. 6 hatched, one died a day later, no idea why. Just for comparison.

I've had anywhere from 80 percent to zilch hatching. I want to really get some good breeder quality silkies and cochins for my sizzle project. But with money being so tight I am hesitant to even try shipped eggs again. Not saying that I won't.My last batch of shipped eggs I didn't even get one chick. It is very disappointing.
Thanks
