What is your success rate with curing bent feet on hatchlings if taped straight?

Does taping bent feet straight with bandaids cure them?

  • Yes, good success

  • Not very well

Some hatching eggs I bought resulted in a few of the chicks having bent feet. I taped them with bandaids to straight position and so far it enables them to walk. How likely is this to result in normal, healthy-footed adult birds?
(If breed matters, Old English Game Bantams)

I only have a sample size of 1, but I had great success with it. It was a Lavender Orpington that hatched with "curly toes". I taped them with a clear bandaid, just the sticky part cut out and folded over the toes. I used a clear one because it was practically invisible, otherwise the broody and the other chicks were pecking at the regular bandaid. I kept the bandaids on for maybe 3-4 days, and that was enough. The chick grew into a beautiful hen and you couldn't even tell she ever had a problem with her toes!

I had good success with chicks, ducklings and turkey poults. I used a piece of cardboard under the feet and taped it. they wore the "shoe" for 3 days.

I kept it for 2 days. if not healed I put another one for the other day or 2. as for removing it, do it slowly. try to find a spot where you can easily cut the bandaids then pull them carefully.
