What killed my chickens?

They tend to live in family groups of one dog, one vixen and her cubs and a few female helpers from previous litters. The family has one or more breeding dens within their territory so I'm guessing you probably have more than one fox hanging around at night.
If you can find a way of humanely dispatching the caught fox then I'd suggest that is the right route to take.
The only other thing I can suggest is to take preventative action and make the coop predator proof which would be most peoples way of dealing with it..
As spring is in the air, you'll start to hear mating calls during the late afternoon and night which would suggest there are a few foxes around your area.

I trust you don't lose any more 👍 :)
Thank you very much for your help!

:welcome :frow So sorry for your loss. My guess would be fox. This is the time of year when they are mating and having their young. If you have a camera, put it up and then you will know for sure what is lurking. The predator will be back. Here they mostly hunt at night but this time of the year they are sometimes out during the day. I have multiple cameras on my property and see predators roaming fairly regularly. I trap and eliminate. I have used leg traps and live traps. Now because of many new people moving into our area I only live trap, but only if the predator has harmed any of my birds. I don't free range anymore due to losses from predators in the past but have nice large pens for my birds. Lessons learned the hard way. Good luck...
