So lately we had two ducks in a coop, and one night we saw a raccoon trying to get into the coop, but the raccoon ran off. Skip to a few weeks there was a huge thunderstorm that lasted til 3-4am and in the morning i checked on my ducks i saw one duck eaten to the spine and the other duck dead but wasn’t eaten, but the predator killed it from the side of the breast of the duck if that makes sense, i think it’s a raccoon that killed my two ducks but isn’t it true that raccoons take the heads off of there prey or is that only to chickens ? but my family thinks it’s a fox but i just don’t know, any suggestions ? and there was no hole once so ever in the ground but we had a roof on the coop.

I had a raccoon incursion just this week. They weighed enough that they pulled loose the roofing material from part of the run. They ate quite a few ducks, except for the wings and heads. So, no they do Not always take the heads off.

Have you looked on the floor around the coop? Rats are known to dig under the coop but raccoon cans also tip the a light weight coop to the side until they can slip under. I’m sorry about you ducks.
