What kills brown recluse spiders?

And the link to what they lok like. Once you have seen a couple, the light brown, almost translucent color is easily recognizable. They do not like light but the light bulb in the attic only works for those in the open when the light is turned on. After that, you will find them between all sorts of objects. I have a great respect for this creature, want nothing to do with dealing with the bite.

Good lord!!!! I should have never started reading this thread, I have a massive phobia of all spiders but just seeing that pic of those has me crawling out of my skin,surveying every nook and cranny in the house for any signs of spider activity (cringe).
Years ago we went to a weekend concert/camping trip on the apple river in WI, A guy on the bus going to the river had a brown recluse bite on his tummy, 2 days later we saw this same guy and the hole in his stomache was unbelievable!!! It started out looking like a zit but a day or 2 later it had gotten huge and nasty. I never found out what happened to the guy but it couldn't of been very good. I'd definately be moving ASAP if i was where you are right now, its either move or have a heart attack from the fear.

One of my jobs I had as I worked my way through school was as a exterminator. Arachnid's don't lick their feet clean like a lot of insects do, so insecticides don't work well on them. The glue trap idea is best and corners are the very best locations. When a spider first comes into a room it will walk all along the wall until it crosses its path again.

My wife was bitten by some kind of b/a spider several years ago.. it started off as a simple bug bite, but then got weepy and hot and swollen.. When it swelled, you could see that the weepiness was coming from two distinct holes.

Then it started turning all kinds of pretty colors. Greens and blues and purples...

A doc said it was most likely a brown recluse and got her on antibiotics ASAP to prevent a secondary infection. It never ruptured or ate a hole in her or anything like that...just cleared up over time.

Doc said that despite all the hoopla, brown recluse bites are usually not all that bad.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I once had a lot of spiders take up residence in my garage/attic. They were all over the place, in the corners, etc. Not sure what kind.

My local pest control place recommended something called "Demon X", which is a water soluble/dispersible powder that you spray around baseboards, etc. The way this stuff works is that BUGS will walk through it, pick it up on their bodies. Then the spiders eat the bugs and die.

Not sure if it would be safe at all around a chicken coop, though.

Go to the feed store and ask for demon. Little packets throw them in a sprayer and the plastic will disolve. Very potent stuff for ants, spiders, roaches. It is by far the best stuff. You will make the orkin man look like a fool. It works fast and for a long time, as in a few years. It can also be sprayed indoors. We have a 15 month old son and three dogs. It will not harm humans or animals as long as it has had time to dry. Buy it, you wont go wrong.

Thank you all for the advice...The opinion to move just aint gonna happen...for once in our lives we are in a place that is comfortable and makes us happy! I have 63 acres to hunt, fish, garden and to raise chickens and such! I will be talking to my landlord (dh's boss) about spraying or using demon or DE! We have lived there for a year, I have been bitten once..it healed after awhile! I check my bed nightly even if dh goes there before me ...I still shake it all up when I get in there! I have found a couple crawling at night thats why I am trying to get rid of them! Again, Thanks to my fellow BYCer's!! My chickens would eat them bit dh wont let them in the house! LOL!!

I use Home Defence. It's easy to use. You spray around the outside of your house. Under eaves, around windows, corners...You can use it inside as well. It is the same product that exterminaters use. Once it's dry, it is safe for children and pets. You reapply once a month or so.

I had a severe problem with wolf spiders. I was killing 30 a day. The exterminator told me $250.00 for first visit, and $45.00 every month after that. He must think I'm made of money.

It doesn't take long. Within a week.
