What kind of bird is this? He was eating a dead duck, sadly.. I was wondering if this bird just eats dead animals or do they actually hunt and kill them ?

he hunts and kills them. he looks like a falcon, but that is a really blurry pic.

Looks like a hawk to me, and if that's the case, then most likely, he hunted and killed it.

A young one grabbed one of my quail once, right in front of me & the dog I was training. When we starting running toward it, it dropped the quail & flew off. The quail was fine, totally unhurt. I worked dogs on him a couple days later.

I had a small hawk grab a chick I was watching right in front of mehe just flew up, ripped her head off and threw her back. the same hawk killed to of my neighbors turkey poults and 4 killdeer chicks.... he never ate any of them. we don't have to worry about him anymore

Oh wow and I do have chickens. Can they kill a Canada goose? Probably a small gosling.. hopefully not.
