We have a speckled Sussex roo and 3 different kinds of hens (New Hampshire red, silver laced Wyandotte and a barred Plymouth Rock). The New Hampshire red went broody and hatched this sole little thing. Six weeks old this week. Any idea on breed and/or gender?

Was this chick from your own birds, or did you buy eggs and put them under the hen? If she came from your own birds, she's not purebred and is a mix. If not, she is looking like a Black Sex Link. For sure, she's a pullet.

I was just wondering what she was mixed with other than the speckled sussex. Yes egg was from my own girls.
My guess would be that she is mixed with either the New Hampshire or the Barred Rock, and not the Wyandotte. Wyandottes have rose combs, which are dominant over single combs. If the Wyandotte had been the mother, this chick would likely have ended up with a rose comb instead of a single comb.
