Last weekend a fox cleared these little guys entire coop. I got the call that they needed a new home asap so they are the newest members of our family. I have never had small chicks only hens that were already laying. I have no idea what type of chickens they are or how old they are. I don't think they were very well cared for. I feel like they were kept in a small area where they may have trampled each other (and this is why some of them are still without a lot of feathers??) I didn't get to see their living area because they were in a cardboard box when I picked them up. I also doubt they had the proper nutrition because the original owner handed me the remnants of a bag of scratch for layers. I started them on developer feed and oyster shell the next day. Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
The pictures below were taken the day i got them. The ones above were taken today. (They look a lot better!)
Thank you in advance!

Well, I'm just plumb proud you took those poor things in. Keep them on the good grub. Give them a good clean area to live in, deworm and de-lice them and they should perk right up. Don't know the breed but I'd call them lucky chickens.

During the day they all hang out in a large open bottom crate so they can peck around. At night I divide them up and put them in two smaller crates amd pit the large crate over them. Then cover it with the tray that should be in the bottom of the large crate and place a heavy object on the tray to try to prevent predators from scaring the heck out of them. I also move them closw to the front door so my dog will alert me if he hears any ruckus. During theday I put rhe large crate on the fence line where my other hens are so they can adjust to each other. I hope I am doing the right thing for them.

How do I treat for lice?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks. Poor little chicks..I have no idea what I am doing.
Any ideas on how old they are? Breed? What type of wormer is recommended for little guys? How do you treat for lice when they are so tiny?

I have never seen the pale blueish green coloring around a chickens eyes. Will that change as they get older?
Sorry to have so many questions....I just want the little guys to live happy healthy lives from now on.

A really good wormer, mite control, and parasite prevention; is Diatanacous (sp?) Earth. You can find it a Tractor Supply and some stores. It's all natural and you just kind of sprinkle it around there food and where they sleep. It's great what you're doing!!:thumbsup

I will pick that up thia week.
Any guesses on age?
Are they really chickens? :-(
