I have a mystery chicken. I’m thinking it’s a production red? I’m super curious what type of comb she has. It’s always been almost non-existent! Nothing like the other pullets I have. Is it a pea comb? She’s almost 18 weeks and I’m looking for signs of egg laying. Her face seems to be getting much more red, but will her comb grow anymore?? It’s still so small and pinkish.

Looks to be a pea comb.

Production red, rhode island red, new hampshire red and red sex links all have straight single combs.

Where did you get her?
I got her at a hatchery in WI. I’ve combed through their list of breeds a million times and the breeds you mentioned above were the only ones that even remotely match her looks.

Which hatchery?

She looks like my starlight green layers in body color and size but my prairie bluebells are pea combed. The starlight and bluebells are mixed breeds being sold by hoovers hatchery. They came up with the mixes trying to give us weirdos birds that lay a more predictable color egg, don't suffer as many cases of crossbeak and lay more eggs than Easter Eggers.

Abendroth. I don’t remember those breed names from their “menu”. I’ve been baffled by this one since I got her. She was supposed to be an ISA Brown and it was pretty apparent right away that she was not. I don’t mind the mix up (as long as it wasn’t a Roo!) I’m just so curious about her breed!

Interesting. I thumbed through their web page and nothing matches.

Depending on how they run things perhaps a RIR rooster got in with their Easter Eggers.
