What kind of duck is this?

Thank you so much all of you , you have helped me a great deal.

I don't know where the people got him but I rescued him from a friend of my husbands who didn't know what to do with him after the city was called on them.
They were facing charges for having him and the rooster in the city and called my husband and asked if we could please take them both.

To me he feels very light, and boney thats why I was concerned about his weight. But I could be just overly worried cause I am so use to
the Pekin ducks being so heavy and fat. When I held one of my barred rock chicks and held the black duck the barred rock chick that was born in May felt heavier than the duck. To me that just didn't seem right. This duck is close to 3 years old. He was a pet of a little boy all his life so he is extremely friendly
and very loving he even takes food gently from our hands.

We have to separate him at feeding time cause my pekins are little porkers and hog up any food we put down. They are all free ranged all day long though.
Do you have a starter or conditioner feed on hand? He's going to always look lean because of his build, does he really feel thin and boney?

Try sprinkling kitty food or corn or whatever you may have that looks like his old food on top of his new food. And be sure he has consistent access to it if you think he is too thin. Make sure he isn't getting chased off it.

Thank you I will try that. I did get him some cracked corn I saw him chasing bugs in the grass he wasn't doing that at first I think him seeing other ducks has encouraged him to learn on his own.

I also wanted to add that when I got him his feathers felt like they was in very bad condition, very brittle, and like they was all stuck together. I dont think they had a pool for him . We had to dunk him not his head but his body a few times before he realized the pool was for him to swim in.

He gets in now on his own and loves swimming with the Pekins we have named the black duck Daffy

I rescued a duck that was fed cat food and earthworms only her entire life... She took to Mazuri waterfowl pellets without any trouble at all. It runs about $35 a 50# bag, but is well worth it. The ducks love it and it floats on the water which naturally encourages them to eat more. Alot less food is wasted too.
Once you know he is eating properly, he will put on any necessary weight. I agree he is going to be a thin duck regardless because it looks to be a runner for sure to me. That bill gives it away. Runners stand tall and are very slender. I raise them and they are much lighter than my heavier breeds that aren't even as heavy as pekins.

I will have to look for that we don't plan on eating any of our ducks they are just hobby ducks for us and they love cuddling with the kids. But I feel it is very important that they get the best foods possible it makes them look pretty and healthy. Of course I wouldn't want them over weight but this is my first ever experience with this breed so I wasn't sure if the feed would be different from Pekin. He still has a few rough feathers but they are slowly smoothing out he dont feel as scraggly as he did the day I picked him up.

I could never eat mine either. Some of mine are diaper trained...lol
I think Mazuri is the best food you can get. It's specially formulated for ducks and is what the Zoos use to feed their exotics even. Purina makes it, so anywhere carrying Purina could maybe order it for you if they don't have it. It really isn't more expensive in the long run either, it lasts much longer because there is less waste. There is also a 25# bag if you just want to get a small one to test it out but I'm pretty sure your ducks will love it. There is a website with all the nutritional data etc. www.mazuri.com
