What is name of the fruit that tasted like pears?

I find them at a favorite Chinese resturant in the fruit section. They are small white circular pear-y tasting. They are smaller than the water chestnuts.

Can I grow them here in Illinois? Are they in canned goods in grocery stores? Or they can be found fresh?

I know they are cored in the middle like apples. It could be Lychee. No, they are not the size of apples LOL! They fit enough on your teaspoon.

Lychee are white and jelly like the pit is black. They can be grown in the states but they cannot tollerate freezing well.

there's Jujubes too. They are a bit more brownish, but have white flesh. Sweet, crunchy and pear like when eaten fresh. I was told that they help with stomach problems as well. They are usually dried though like dates.
