Hello all! I am new to posting. I was adopted by this lovely hen. She lays the tiniest eggs and eats from my hand. She might weigh one pound at the most. She loves to help me weed and prefers bugs over worms.. She lives in a kitchen cabinet mounted inside my shed with most of her needs fulfilled. Spoiled rotten. She stays in her preferred spot whether she has an egg or not. She has a post but stays in the cabinet. She will come out every other day or so to get her exercise. Can anyone tell me her breed?

She appears to be a mix, probably with Old English Game or similar. She's very pretty and it seems like you have made a nice little home for her. I would try and find at least one friend for her as chickens are social animals and require the flock dynamic to feel safe.

She actually crossed the fence from next door. She visits with his 13 hens and 2 roosters but she always comes back to me after an hour or so. I tried to get a chick today but they wouldn't sell less than 4.

Go ahead and get her 4 then. Just wait till about an hour after dark and slip them in under her. She'll wake up in the morning to the joy of being a new mother! If I can get my hands on chicks less than a week old when I have broody hens, I like to slip them some babies to make them happy. It's also healthier than having them sit there nearly a month before getting their babies.

She does appear to be broody from her behaviours; didn't read properly at first, sorry. Does she growl at you when you approach her nest? Try letting her hatch her eggs out, if she has been visiting a cockerel, though it is late in the season.
I say that she visits but he has a wire tunnel from the coop out to the barnyard. So she does not come into complete contact with a rooster. Yes, she will growl at me or raise her feathers until she sees I have a nice cold grape for her. Haha

Long story short, no fowl in this little town in NC. Neighbor was grandfathered in so HE can have chickens. I may could sneak in one but not 4 more. I would certainly love to though.
