What Kind of Incubator do you have or prefer ?

Basically, this is the units I have, except for the window in the door, that was an extra $100 besides the price of the trays and hatching draw, etc. They are fully automatic. Put on eggs and take out chicks! But they don't come cheap. By the time you get everything, you have spent a grand!

Ok here goes nothing

These are some of today's eggs. Two turkey and two Wellsummer. My turkeys are Midgets.

Here is a pic of the bator. It currently only has 19 eggs in it, but as you can see I put six in each row. I think Midget eggs are smaller than other turkeys. I know my Broad breasted pets layed much bigger, but they were also a lot of double yokers. Made awesome mamoth muffins though.

Gotcha'! I can only fit 12 Bourbon Red turkey eggs in there. The BR eggs are BIG. I wish I could put more turkey eggs in there. :hit

I would cry too! But that is one of the reasons I bought the larger Brinsea. I'm getting some Broad Breasted eggs on the 9th of Feb, so we will see how many will fit. I also need to start another batch of Midgets next weekend, so in about a month I will be in turkey heaven.

Do your home work, I bought a r-com 20 pro and now have more eggs than room. I now have to wait til my Batch of turkeys are finished to sell the r-com and buy a GQF

Hey Celie I just realized I didn't answer your question. I get eggs from a guy that hatches them for a local hatchery. Also my BBW eggs have always been huge compared to the midgets eggs. Don't know why but that has been the case. Eva, my fat girl, just started laying again and she makes the midget eggs look small.

What breed did you put over her to get fertile eggs? When I raised the BB, only the first few eggs were fertile, from just the BB, before the tom became too big to breed! I might get a few hen BB turkeys from the feed store, to be the comparative for the taste test, and later I could put a Holland tom over her, to see what the outcome might be, because so many people have asked about it. The BB hens are slower growing than the toms, so they live a few years longer than a BB tom!

No the BBW eggs are coming from a turkey breeder farm. My pet BBW, Eva, does get bred by our toms, but she has only laid one egg that we know of this year. I've heard of people using different heritage breed toms with the BBW hens, but they must be younger girls than mine. I'm not sure our Tom can reach as Eva is quite large. She easily could flatten one of the toms.

DO NOT EVER BUY THE JANOEL JN8-48 INCUBATOR!!!!

The following is only my experience, but seems to be very consistent with most feedback.

I purchased a JN8-48 three months ago and it's killed over 80 "extremely rare" and expensive eggs so far. On a hunch I finally bought four thermometers, two of one brand and two of another that are supposed to be within 0.1F degrees. I placed one in each corner of the incubator and received temperature differences of 3.2F degrees. I switched the thermometers around to eliminate differences between them and received almost the exact same results.

When the temp is almost 102F in one corner and only 98.7 in another corner, some chicks are just not going to make it. I found that the eggs closest to the electronics stayed closest to the correct temp while the two corners furthest from the electronics all died. I couldn't tell you how many dead chicks I found in eggs, but I can tell you that hatching 2 to 4 chicks per 40+ eggs is unacceptable. I should also mention that the humidity sensor failed in the first two days of use. In my opinion, this unit is JUNK!

Of course, it took two incubation cycles to figure all these problems out and so I contacted the eBay seller "incubator2012" and asked for a return. The seller implied there wouldn't be a problem and asked for photos of the temperature differences. After that he asked for a video. This went on until after the 45 day eBay dispute deadline passed and then basically told me to go away. This is currently being disputed via PayPal.

Please don't make the same mistake I made. Stay away from the Janoel JN8-48 incubator and the eBay seller "incubator2012".
