I was recording my chickens dustbathing today, and all of a sudden, my chicken made this noise, almost like the one she does while nesting when something bothers her. Does anyone know why? She just made it really randomly...If you go to 00:35 seconds in this video, she makes the noise after a few seconds.

Yep, I knew it was gonna be that. [IMG]

She's making a warning call. Roosters do it even louder too. It's a warning sound that alerts the rest of the flock that a potential predator is around. Most of the time it's just a songbird, robin, or the sorts flying over.

My boys make that sound all the time, as we've got birds flying and zipping around all the time. Their warning call sounds more like a dinosaur or something though. [IMG]

It sure is a warning call.

My hens do it lounder than my 2 roos.

Maybe she was objecting to her picture being taken. [IMG]
