Hello all,

I "rescued" two peafowl along with a bunch of chickens. Just wondering what kind (color) of peacock is it? His train was cut off as it was in a flood and had to be put in a dog crate for a couple of days. The former owner tells me what is left will fall off and then grow back. Is this true, and if so when?

Hi there and welcome aboard!

The picture is a little blurry so I wouldn't bet my house on it, but he looks like an India Blue. He also looks very greenish on the neck, which could be the way the light is hitting him or he could have some green blood which would make him a spalding peacock. He should molt around the end of summer and he will shed out many feathers including the entire big tail, then it will all slowly grow back over the winter, so that he has a big pretty tail to impress the ladies with by next spring This happens to all of them every year.

Here are some more pics:

He sure does look like a spalding to me. That would be a cross between a blue peacock and a green peacock. The clincher would be his cheek, if he has a little yellow on his cheek under his eye he is 100% for sure a spalding, he is very handsome as well. This is one of my spaldings who is about 11 months old now.

Yes, his train will all fall out this fall and he will start growing a new and better one for next year ....good Luck .. connerhills
