What kind of predator do I have?

Nathhowe may be right.

I now doubt any airborne pred could down a bird that big, even if it shared the kill with another one. That is serious stuff!

I think a trap might be in order, baited with raw meat maybe. Be sure to stake it down good too. They are not cheap and they can be dragged away if they pop too soon and get a critter only halfway in.

No more deaths here, thank god. But....a friend was leaving my house yesterday
and a bobcat crossed the road in front of her. Guess now at least I know what
I'm up against! Any ideas on how to get rid of a bobcat?

What I did is I baited the trap with raw chicken, the key is to get the trap as hidden as possible, that will increase your chances. Cover the bottom with dirt well. Just get creative and use a large live trap. They travel the same path, but have big territories. You might not get it your first night so be patient. Im not sure about the legalities of it, but they're not endangered and if its killing your livestock it needs to be dealt with. Good luck, Nathan.

If you have a bobcat eating on a carcuss they are easy to catch. when they cover a catch they will be back till the meat rots or they eat it all. You can snap a trap on them and they will be back the next time they get hungry. If thy run out of meat they are gonna try and find more esy prey. if they don't find it they will find it somewhere else.

If you in fact have a bobcat...............you will find the evidence covered up by leaves and anything else they can find. If you can at least get a #2 or bigger foot hold or two set them on either side of the meat about 18-24 inches away and use sticks to guide him to the dinner. You can guide a cat on bait heavely. stick the sticks in theground to form a loose wall to keep the non target critters from getting cought. on either side of the foothold lay a twig where he will step on the trap. soft feet means you can guide them easily. wire the trap with heavy tie wire doubled to a substantial tree. if you get him give him all the respect as he is a leashed, upset, bad attitude that can back up his claims.

Remember.........find the carcuss and respect the leashed kitty!

Good luck!

Traps...bah shoot the sucker. He will be out at night when everything is quiet. Use raw chicken as bait. Look for signs in leaves and near tree bases....they travel the same route usually.
