what kind of shaving to put in coop

Hey Peeps,

If you have a problem with the sticky stuff again, I work for a pest control company and we have customers that allow their pets around glue boards for mice and they get stuck. You can use vegetable oil to release the sticky from the pet/bird. That usually works but be patient, it takes quite a bit of oil and you have to work it in to get the fur/feathers saturated. If you work it in good, then you do not have to pull any feathers out, it will release them. The bird will be a bit oily but that will come out with some soap and water. Or your dog or cat.

Thanks for the tip Karen,
I ended up using WD40 to get the rest of the sticky off of her, then bathed the bird in warm soapy water with Dawn in it... and she was not exactly cooperative (scared to death, lol), which is why I had resorted to scissors. She molted a month or so later and grew in new feathers, so no big deal... but I have noticed she always keeps one eye on any of those flystrips if I have them hanging anywhere, lol (I don't use them in my coops and pens anymore.. lesson learned, lol).

This bird could not have been more tangled up in that sticky strip tho, there wasn't a sticky spot left on that tape that did not have feathers, small sticks, straw or shavings stuck to it once I finally caught her. She had it stuck to the side of her head, around her neck, between her legs, under one wing, around one leg, and had it stuck to her butt and tail feathers too with the rest of the tape trailing behind her picking up debris as she ran around like a Guinea with it's head cut off, lol. She had bulldozed all over the front pasture and in and out of her pen a few times in a complete panic because some big scary monster had latched onto her that was grabbing everything it touched. You had to be there to appreciate the story, lol. I don't name very many of my birds, but I have called that bird "Sticky" ever since that episode, lol.

That is funny. LOL. that would be something to see. In that case, I do not think the vegetable oil would have worked. To much to release. These birds are so funny and that is what I miss the most about mine. I do not miss the sickness but I miss them terribly, and for some reason, the person I gave them to will not answer my e-mails anymore, so I am wondering if he still has them or did he get rid of them. Oh well, they are not my birds anymore.
