what kind of snake is this?

Its identicle in but one aspent to the Yellow Rat Snake, the Ywllow rat snake has little grey markings around its eyes, this one does not, it must be killed, or relocated, i had one once and it killed two of my Silkies, ate fourty-two eggs and two of my brown hens.

The reason is the Hens are laying eggs, he will eat the eggs until Hens stop laying, then he kills the hens, if they keep laying he will be quite friendly, but afterwards he will attack them.

And the Clock snake is just a Nick-Name here in DE idk what its really called but we saw had one, it ate the eggs then it killed the hens, i was really mad, so i shot it.

To the best of my knowledge, the only poisonous snakes in the mainland US are rattlesnake, copperhead, water moccasain (all pit vipers), and coral snake. This does not appear to be any of the above, so I'll go with rat snake. Relocate, or evict and seal coop.

it looks a great deal like a Baird's rat snake. but the bairds are Texas/Mexico snakes. i'm no expert, but my understanding is snakes in U.S. with that linear striping are not venomous.
venemous in U.S. are going to be rattlesnake, copperhead, coral, cottonmouth. it's none of those.

yellow rat snake -AKA chicken snake

some people like them ,some don't.if you have chicks make sure they are secure in 1/2 in hardware cloth.and it also depends on the size of your chickens.read up on them and you make the call.
i like snakes so i think it is a pretty snake.

Glad you relocated the beautiful animal! I love rat snakes they have so much color and are non-venomous.

agreed,these are the ones to look out for.3(i think-eastern,pygmy and timber)rattlesnakes and the mentioned above.if you know what these look like then all others are ok.
